Consultant for Graphic Design and Infographics of Endline Report and Two Sub-Reports

Closing Date: 10th November 2017

Location: Home-based

Organization: Oxfam

1.Background, rationale and purpose of the Graphic Design

Oxfam’s Durable Peace Programme has recently completed an extensive project endline survey in Kachin state, covering many indicators including livelihoods and development. This information is being disaggregated, such as by gender and location. The endline report will be communicating vast amounts of data and information, intended for diverse audiences, such as civil society and donor agencies. As such, Oxfam is seeking the services of a graphic designer or company with extensive experience in infographics to design the endline report. A visually appealing design is c ritical to enhancing engagement with the report.

All written and statistical content for the report will be prepared for the designer in a Word file to then be transferred into a design program, such as InDesign or Illustrator. The statistical content will be provided in percentages and numbers – guidance will be provided for the visualisation of all statistics and data (statistical analysis or calculations won’t be required). The text will need to be laid out in an engaging fashion, while the statistical content must be developed into visually engaging infographics that clearly demonstrate key themes and efficiently represent large amounts of information. Efficient communication of extensive information is critical to maximize intake of the information. Critically, the endline survey will include comparisons with the baseline data, potentially doubling the amount of included data. The designer will be required to conceptualise an effective way to make these comparisons, while maintaining an efficient presentation of all data.

In addition to the main endline report, the designer will be required to also prepare two approximately 10-page sub-reports that focus on specific areas of the endline, such as going into greater depth on the socioeconomic situation. These two sub-reports must have a similar style and continuity with the main report, but will involve a greater proportion of text.

2.Deliverables of the consultancy

In close collaboration with Oxfam staff, the graphic designer will be required to deliver the following:

· Main report: Graphic design of an approximately 40-50 page report. Ready for print.

· Two sub-reports: topics to be decided, but approximately 10 pages to offer deeper analysis, blending higher levels of narrative than the endline report. Ready for print. (It is possible that the sub-reports may not proceed, thus requiring separate budgeting)

· High level infographics throughout the reports, visualising extensive data.

· Minimal editing of some photos (provided by Oxfam) to be included in the report

3.Requirements of the consultant/company

· Demonstrable experience in developing visually appealing, data heavy reports for printing: experience of a baseline/endline report with infographics highly preferable

· Demonstrable experience in developing high-level infographics

· Strong communication skills to ensure effective collaboration

· Ability to meet strict deadlines, while also being flexible

· Previous experience working with Oxfam, consortiums and EU-funding preferred

4.Indicative process and timeline

· 17/11: Designer selected and (Skype) meeting held to provide initial guidance

· 1/12: Oxfam provides finalised content to designer to begin design of endline report

· 8/12: Draft design provided to Oxfam (not full report, just indication of style)

· 15/12: complete draft design submitted to Oxfam

· 19/12: Oxfam provides feedback on design

· 22/11: Final version of the report complete, ready for print

· Design of the two sub-reports will ideally run in parallel, but flexibility will be ensured, with an expectation that finalisation will likely continue into January 2018.

· Timelines are only indicative and subject to change

5.Selection process and payment

All applications will be assessed on technical competency, value for money and overall ability to deliver the desired deliverables according to or quicker than the tentative schedule. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted.

50% of the overall fee will be paid upon signing the contract and the remaining 50% paid upon completion of the final version of the reports to a standard that meets Oxfam’s requirements.
