Oxfam is an international confederation of 20 organizations working in 90 countries to tackle poverty. Combining rights-based development programs with humanitarian assistance, campaigns and advocacy Oxfam supports partners to challenge structural causes of poverty. Oxfam draws on global expertise to enhance collective impact and maximise cost effectiveness at the community level.
Oxfam aims to work with essential partners in a unified approach to connect poor and vulnerable communities to water and sanitation services, ensuring they are working equitably. By working to support and connect humanitarian and development actors and approaches, Oxfam will build real resilience for marginalised populations to keep water and sanitation systems operational, accessible and affordable.
Water for Women Fund
Oxfam has received a grant under the Water for Women Fund from the Australian DFAT for a new 4-year project in Myanmar. This project will focus on breaking down the barriers to inclusive sanitation through a market based approach that strengthens the capacity of local government, the private sector and communities to deliver services in an affordable and sustainable manner.
In line with the Government of Myanmar's first national strategy for rural WASH, released in February 2017, the project will aim to work closely with the government to take a market based approach to introduce and field test inclusive, sustainable and innovative approaches to sanitation marketing.
The project is currently in a detailed design phase, with several specific pieces of work being commissioned to help shape the roll-out of the project later in 2019.
Purpose of the consultancy:
To research and write up a short policy discussion paper on reaching universal affordable sanitation coverage in Myanmar, with a specific focus on how to reach the poorest and most marginalized households.
