Oxfam is looking for an experienced consultant to carry out a stakeholder mapping of influential actors in the West Africa operating in the field of climate change. The mapping will help Oxfam to better support vulnerable communities impacted by climate change, by leveraging the strengths of its partners in the region.
BACKGROUND
For years, Oxfam in West Africa has been contributing to reducing the vulnerability of farming, fishing and pastoral communities towards climate-related risks, such as floods, droughts, and desertification. Through multi-country climate resilience projects, and specific program and influencing activities within its food security and humanitarian pillars, Oxfam’s experience of responding to the short and long term impacts of climate change in West African countries is significant.
Despite the fact that most of Oxfam’s climate change related work has been undertaken with local and national-level partners, there is a significant lack of visibility and knowledge at country and regional level on potential new and influential partners Oxfam could engage with to develop its programmatic ambition on climate change adaptation, and their potential interest to contribute to Oxfam’s 3 programmatic priorities (climate financing, policy influencing, and building resilient capacities). Yet, systemic change in climate change governance requires that a broad range of actors at all levels of society take action to enhance the way that climate risks are anticipated, managed, and reduced.
To deliver an impactful climate change program and achieve its vision for a resilient West Africa, Oxfam will need to build equal and mutually benefiting alliances with a broad range of like-minded and diverse actors in West Africa. Oxfam is therefore looking for a consultant to identify opportunities for creating partnerships to deliver its program, but also to better influence, learn and innovate in order to achieveits vision for a resilient and just West Africa.
