Background

The Retail Team of the Trading division provides operational support to managers and staff across Oxfam GB to recruit, develop, recognise and retain volunteers. Oxfam has over 30,000 volunteers, primarily based in 630 shops throughout the UK, with a further 6,000 supporting Oxfam with community fundraising events. There are also volunteers in our UK offices. Oxfam does not send volunteers overseas.

The role

Reporting to the Deputy Trading Director, the Head of Volunteering will be responsible for:

· Providing leadership of volunteering across Oxfam GB and specialist advice to the Trading Leadership Tea, and Senior Management Team on volunteering issues.

· Being accountable for the volunteering strategy and implementation across the Trading Division and Oxfam GB

· Managing human and financial resources relating to corporate volunteering activity for Trading division.

· Developing solutions and strategies to specialist, diverse and/or complex problems where little or no precedent exists.

· Managing relevant relationships with external partners and represents Oxfam.

· Leading, developing and managing a team of staff and volunteers to deliver the volunteering objectives of the Trading Division’s business strategy

· Ensuring that Oxfam has the information it needs around external volunteering trends, policy and law, and changes within the sector to make informed business decisions around volunteering, including Safeguarding and safe recruitment.

· Supporting the development of Trading’s divisional strategy, to ensure that Volunteering is represented in both strategic and operational plans.

· Supporting the development of the Audience Engagement division’s strategy in relation to volunteer engagement and Oxfam’s portfolio of volunteering opportunities.

· Developing feedback mechanisms for volunteers, that will help to further improve our learning and volunteer offer.

What we are looking for

· Significant knowledge and understanding of the current volunteering environment and of managing a complex volunteering programme.

· Excellent inter personal skills – with the ability to communicate, influence, provide leadership and the ability to present information and ideas.

· A proven track record in strategy execution and delivery of outstanding results, and experience in leading and managing staff and volunteers to achieve objectives.

· Proven experience of managing change.

· Confidence and determination to challenge existing thinking and the ability to communicate at all levels internally and externally.

· A passion for and commitment to volunteering.

Hours: 36 per week

Salary:£38,128 – £49,823 depending on experience
