An innovative and delivery-orientated strategic logistician with strong team leadership and a passion for Oxfam's work is needed for this key position in our growing and high profile programme in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Context:
Oxfam GB has been present in DRC for more than 50 years. The current programme is based in the Provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu, Orientale, Equateur and Kinshasa, working in development and humanitarian interventions.
Role
Reporting to the Humanitarian Programme Manager, you are responsible for effective supply chain management and logistics systems across the DRC ensuring that Oxfam's programme is able to respond in a timely manner to major humanitarian emergencies, while maintaining high-level of support to our development programme. You are responsible for designing and delivering a national logistics strategy to ensure that the basics of logistics are in place throughout the country, as well as ensuring the successful delivery of the regional and corporate strategies at country level. You will need to influence high-level management within Oxfam to adopt new policies and to retain discipline to policies already in place.
Regular field trips (approximately 60%) are part of this exciting job. This key position in the program often involves supporting other sectors by solving logistical queries.
Person You know that nothing works without logistics in emergencies and development programming. You are a crucial interface between programmes and support services, and your success is a change in the lives of half a million women, children and men in DRC. You must be a highly motivated and results-orientated logistics specialist seeking a real challenge, with experience managing the risks associated with logistics in similar environments. It is essential that you bring strong leadership qualities and substantial experience of effective people management in a similar working environment and preferably with a large and / or complex organisation, as well as the ability to provide effective support to a multidisciplinary and multicultural team. You must enjoy and excel in the development and motivation of staff, and must be able to communicate effectively to different audiences in English and French both verbally and in written form. Highly qualified candidates who demonstrate the desire to improve their French to the required level may also be considered. You will bring with you a proven ability to work under pressure, to organize a high workload efficiently and to coach programme teams to confidently make decisions - ensuring they have the knowledge of how to access relevant logistics information.
