The Role
Oxfam is looking for a Knowledge Management Specialist to join the Knowledge for Impact Team in its vision to transform Oxfam in a Knowledge-based organization.
The ideal candidate should think outside the box, be able to take advantage of new opportunities for learning, sharing new knowledge, being intellectually agile and thinking creatively.
Many of the tasks and assignments will involve working with teams that are drawn from a diverse cross section of Oxfam, supporting them on identifying knowledge needs, knowledge gaps/problems and priorities, and work on possible solutions. The building of internal and external relationships and networks will be highly important as will the ability to consider the needs of others when proposing effective solutions.
Oxfam is looking to recruit individuals with a proven track record in Knowledge Management, from carrying knowledge audit, to developing knowledge strategies, to supporting knowledge use (at least 7 years relevant experience).
Key responsibilities and essential skills:
- Participate in the strategic design and implementation, when appropriate, of how Oxfam can invest in people as knowledge agents, and the concept of Oxfam staff being knowledge citizens.
- Provide support to, or lead, the establishment and nurturing of knowledge structures (e.g. communities of practice, knowledge hubs, technical exchange networks) that foster co-creation of knowledge products and support its use. This may involve rethinking and supporting the current structures and proposing alternatives based on Oxfam needs.
- Introduce, improve, or support the use of digital tools to encourage cross-sector/department/country collaboration and knowledge sharing, and digital mechanisms to stimulate learning and the use of knowledge products.
- Ability to use a variety of tools, methods, channels and approaches for capturing, disseminating, and supporting knowledge use across the organization and with partners.
- Makes things happen; is proactive; balances "analysis" with "doing"; sets high standards for self; commits to organizational goals
- Collaborates with others in own unit and across departments; acknowledges others' contributions; works effectively with individuals of different culture and gender; willing to seek help as needed
Fluency in English required and competence in French and/or Spanish is desirable.
