OXFAM PURPOSE: To work with others to find lasting solutions to poverty and suffering.
TEAM PURPOSE: To deliver high quality Oxfam’s humanitarian WASH and EFSVL response for South Sudanese Refugees in Gambella, Ethiopia.
JOB PURPOSE: To provide high quality technical support and quality control in management, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Oxfam’s South Sudan Refugee response programme in Gambella; Maintain and improve established systems & structures required for the effective timely implementation of quality water, sanitation and hygiene promotion component of the programme.
BACKGROUND:
Following the recent political unrest as well as food insecurity in South Sudan and to some extent, the favourable conditions to cross the border (e.g. dry weather condition), more refugees are crossing into Ethiopia side in search of safe heaven. This led to the Government of Ethiopia and and UNHCR to consider the establishment of a new Refugee camp to accommodate the new influx of refugees. As per UNHCR update provided on 11/11/2016, more than 38,000 refugees have been registered at Pagak reception centre all of whom have been resettled in different camps including the new camp (Nguenyyiel). Due to the current political and food security situation in South Sudan, UNHCR is expecting more refugees (75,000 people) to cross the border which demands basic services to be made ready to meet the required humanitarian needs.
Following the influx from South Sudan and a decision to open the new camp that can accommodate 50,000-70,000 refugees, Oxfam has been tasked by UNHCR & government to provide both Emergency and Sustainable WASH in 2017. Oxfam is committed to providing timely humanitarian assistance to these refugees and to increasing programme impact by strengthening the effectiveness and accountability of our humanitarian work.
