Salary and benefits: €61,559.00 to €68,399.00 + Representation Allowance

The Role

Oxfam International Secretariat is looking for an EU Migration Policy Advisor to lead the policy and advocacy development and implementation of Oxfam’s work on migration and forced displacement at European level. The position will lead on influencing EU targets (Commission, Parliament, Council), focusing on two strands of work:

  • Protection of migrants and upholding their rights during their flight, upon arrival and during their stay in Europe.
  • The external EU Migration Agenda and its impacts on Oxfam advocacy priorities (inequality, development, humanitarian, gender, climate).

The position will also support and strategically advise relevant country and regional teams and partners to influence the EU’s operations at the country and regional level and (help them) link their migration and displacement advocacy towards the EU and its member states.

Key responsibilities are:

  • Undertaking policy and political analysis aimed at strengthening Oxfam’s understanding of, and ability to influence relevant EU migration policies and practices.
  • Developing and maintaining key relationships with the relevant EU institutions, policy makers and other stakeholders.
  • Working closely with other relevant NGOs and networks for joint advocacy initiatives.
  • Leading the development of briefings, letters and presentations.
  • Representing Oxfam in meetings, conferences, and international fora.
  • Undertaking internal coordination work within the Oxfam Confederation, supporting country-led advocacy and linking programme work with broader influencing work.

Who we’re looking for

Our next EU Migration Policy Advisor will need to have:

  • Experience in the humanitarian/development sector and on refugee/migration issues, preferably in the European context;
  • Excellent understanding of the European Union institutions, processes, and political debates, including those related to conflicts, asylum and migration;
  • Excellent analytical skills, demonstrable ability to provide strong leadership and representational skills in a multi-disciplinary setting.
  • Experience in alliance building in working with civil society partners and across multi-cultural environments;
  • Diplomacy, tact, and negotiation skills, as well as ability to work independently, coupled with a drive to achieve results.
