The Role

Oxfam's work in Tajikistan includes Water and Sanitation, Economic Justice and Gender Justice programmes, as well as disaster risk reduction and climate change and local governance.

As a Country Director, you will contribute to and implement Oxfam’s Global Strategy, by providing vision and strategic direction to all of Oxfam’s work in Tajikistan. This includes Oxfam’s long term development programme design and implementation, advocacy and policy and influencing work within the country. You will be responsible for continued improvement in quality and impact of our programmes and effective financial and human resource management. Importantly you will guide and inspire senior managers and their teams to deliver to a high standard. The Country Director will take the lead in respresenting Oxfam and the country programme nationally and globally.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a highly committed professional with a proven track record of leading and motivating multi disciplinary, geographically remote teams and operations across a number of locations. The successful candidate will have significant senior leadership and management experience in the development and delivery of high quality programme, influencing and humanitarian strategy, with and through partners or directly. In addition they will have proven analytical skills, and the ability to think strategically and influence diplomatically.

The candidate will be a strong communicator in English, and it is also highly desirable that they have the ability to communicate in Russian. About the MECIS Region

The Middle East and Commonwealth of Independent States (MECIS) region implements and manages programmes in Yemen, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Russia, Tajikistan, Armenia, and Georgia.

Programmes within the MECIS region reflect Oxfam’s approach to work across the globe. We support self-reliance, not dependency, and to complement our work on the ground we strive to secure lasting change through our campaigning.

Useful Information

Contract length: Open ended (Accompanied position)
