Country: Kenya
Organization: Oxfam
Closing date: 12 Feb 2021

Oxfam is a global movement of people working together to end the injustice of poverty.

That means we tackle the inequality that keeps people poor. Together we save, protect and rebuild lives. When disaster strikes, we help people build better lives for themselves, and for others. We take on issues like land rights, climate change and discrimination against women. And we won’t stop until every person on the planet can enjoy life free from poverty.

We are an international confederation of 20 organizations (affiliates) working together with partners and local communities in the areas of humanitarian, development and campaigning, in more than 90 countries. The Oxfam International Secretariat is currently headquartered in Nairobi, with offices in Oxford, Washington DC, New York, Brussels, Geneva, and a liaison office with the Africa Union in Addis Ababa.

All our work is led by three core values: Empowerment, Accountability, Inclusiveness. To read more about our values please click here

*The Role

Oxfam International Secretariat is looking for a Media Officer to join into our four-person media team. You’ll be developing international media strategies and content across Oxfam’s influencing and humanitarian agenda. You’ll be working ultimately with Oxfam teams around the world in delivering this content to their markets.

*What we are looking for

You will be a sharp written communicator with great news judgement and a flair for the creative – a storyteller. You’ll prize simplicity and accuracy. You’ll have a strategic understanding of media delivery, including in tandem with social media channels. You’ll have a track record of developing close networks and relationships with colleagues around the world and be aware of their different contexts and supportive of their needs. You’ll know how to minimize and manage risk and how to maximize positive impact. You’ll have at least five years of media experience behind you, with knowledge of non-governmental organizations and other languages a bonus.

What we offer

This is an opportunity to expand your current media experience into an international level. At Oxfam, we believe that every aspect of our work can lead to a positive outcome. If you have the same opinion, together with the ability to meet the challenges involved, this role offers scope for immense personal fulfilment – as well as outstanding opportunities to develop your career.
